Mission Statement

I came to Eugene in 2022 to begin my academic career at the University of Oregon, and since living here I have met a wide range of people that have impacted my life perspective of Eugene .

I initially didn’t know what I wanted to do in college. I started out as an Environmental Science major, but quickly turned to Journalism halfway through my freshman year. I struggled with my passion, I was floundering in my classes, and I had essentially lost all hope before finding my footing and writing articles with the help of those who came before me.

Along with the incredible staff that we have at the Eugene-Springfield Herald, we are determined to tell the stories of people living in Eugene and the unique experiences that can be found in this city.

Whether it’s environmentally conscious initiatives, creative art scenes, or the community that ties it all together, Eugene is a place that fosters personal growth and empowerment. The diverse perspectives from across the city– whether it’s from long-time residents or newcomers like myself– all of us at the Eugene-Springfield Herald are committed to documenting these stories and celebrating the lives of those who call Eugene home.
